Delaware Water Gap/Worthington State Forest

In the Delaware Water Gap area lies Worthington State Forest, New Jersey. Here are some great hikes and beautiful views. We parked in the Douglas/Garvey parking area which is adjacent to Worthington Campground (more like a picnic area) and directly across the street from the trailhead. Hit the Douglas Trail (blue blazes) and hook up with the AT at an elevation of 1,000 ft, then back down via the Garvey Spring Trail (orange blazes). The Douglas Trail climbs an old roadway to the AT at a point 1 mile south of Sunfish Pond. Total to Sunfish Pond: 2-1/2 miles. Garvey Spring Trail crosses Rockcores Trail (green blazes) and climbs 1-1/4 miles and 1,000 ft. to the AT just north of Sunfish Pond.

This is a moderate, continuous climb, but the payoff is awesome. When the Douglas trail meets the AT there are some great views! At Sunfish Pond are some neat stone structures built on the bank and rocky ledges that serve as a nice resting place. Terrain is fairly steep, rocky in places but nothing treacherous. Total hiking time: about 3 hours.
